PROCESS SKETCHES
To begin the iterative process of creating authoring tools, I devised a set of three low-stakes mini studies in which I brainstormed different tools that could contribute to the writing process. In order to connect the tools to different phases of an argument, I aligned each study with three of the components from Toulmin’s Model: claim, data, and warrant. Through a series of sketches, I explored potential behaviors and functions of the tools, with the intention of creating a modular set to work with in piecing together a system. I intended the tools, when grouped together within a system, to guide the user through the construction of an argument in an implicit manner.
